40 years of "Teleco" in Vigo

This academic year, we are celebrating anniversaries!

During the 2025–2026 academic year, we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the introduction of Telecommunication Engineering studies in Galicia with the creation, in the 1985–1986 academic year, of the Higher Technical School of Telecommunication Engineers (ETSE) on the Vigo campus, then affiliated with the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).

At that time, this degree was only offered at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC).

In 1990, the Regional Government of Galicia approved the separation of the Universities of Vigo and A Coruña, and the ETSE of Telecommunication Engineering became part of the University of Vigo.

Initially, the degree programme shared facilities with the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineers, until 35 years ago, in the 1990–1991 academic year, when the current School building (EET) was inaugurated.
