The School of Telecommunication Engineering actively supports student associations, collaborating annually with an economic sponsorship. In addition, it provides space in the centre so that they can develop their activities.

CES UVigo

We are a multidisciplinary team formed by students from the University of Vigo. We seek to design and manufacture solar-powered boats to participate in international competitions. Our objectives are to promote the world of sailing and renewable energies in the university community, as well as to offer the students of the University a collaborative work experience in a real environment.

In the summer of 2022, we will enter the international Monaco Energy Boat Challenge regatta, a competition in which we will compete against universities, companies and associations from all over Europe. We hope to show our capabilities and leave the Galician brand in Monaco.

UVigo SpaceLab is a team created in early 2020 formed by university students dedicated to the design, manufacture and operation of small satellites and space missions within the educational field. The members are students of the different engineering departments of the Campus of the University of Vigo: Campus Marcosende (Vigo) and Campus del agua (Ourense).

This project allows us to put into practice the knowledge and skills obtained during our university studies, gaining experience in the aerospace field. Some of our missions are the following:

OLLO – 3U Cubesat Study

Open Little Luminary Observatory – OLLO is a mission concept for a 3U CubeSat. Its objective is to popularise astronomy to the general public through a freely accessible orbital telescope for celestial observations.

This study was chosen by the European Space Agency (ESA) to participate in the Concurrent Engineering workshop at their ESEC-Galaxy facility in Belgium. OLLO was UVigo SpaceLab’s first mission study and made it possible to establish the structure and dynamics of the laboratory.

Current Mission – Biological

UVigo SpaceLab and CINBIO are currently developing a biological space mission on a CubeSat platform to monitor the influence of radiation and microgravity on microorganisms. The team is also in charge of the design of the subsystems required for the space platform, focusing its research on the structure, the attitude control system (ADCS) and the electrical power system (EPS).

This initiative started in 2001 and its objective is to facilitate the approach of companies to future graduates of the University. We intend to bring together major companies related to the technology sector in a common framework, showing a global vision of job prospects for this sector. Although initially designed for technical profiles, it is also of interest to all university students who want to approach the world of work.

During the Technological Employment Forum, the main attraction is the stands, where the participating companies can have a close interaction with the students, collecting CVs and maintaining direct communication, allowing a possible way of recruitment. Other forms of contact are the workshops, where different activities are carried out that allow to check first-hand the skills of the participants or to develop new competencies; and the conferences, where technical presentations are made on topics of interest chosen by the students through surveys.

We are a debating association of the University of Vigo born in the School of Telecommunication Engineering. We focus on providing practical and theoretical training in public speaking based on the most established models of university debate in Spain: the academic model and the BP (British Parliament). Our goal is that you acquire the skills to defend and expose your ideas with clear and concise arguments, thus being able to reach a wider audience, either in your work or personal life, or in the presentations of your projects or TFG. In other words, the utilities are endless!

And, of course, you have the possibility to participate in our internal league and in the tournaments that are organised in universities all over Spain in both types of debate.

Public speaking is a core skill that, like many others, improves with training and we are here to help you. Join us, we are waiting for you!

UVigo Motorsport is a team of students from the University of Vigo founded in 2014 dedicated to the design, manufacture and validation of a single-seater. The purpose of this challenge is to put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired throughout our university education, which will then be evaluated by a group of experts in the world of motorsport and the automotive sector during the international “Formula Student” competitions. In the recent years, we have focused on improving and optimising our single-seaters, but, in the following seasons, we face a great challenge: the development of an autonomous single-seater. The current competition situation presents us with the task of having a single-seater capable of competing in at least one race autonomously by 2022.

Formula Student

It is the most important interuniversity motor racing competition in the world. Based on an interdisciplinary training project launched in the United Kingdom in 1998, this initiative brings together hundreds of universities each year at each of the European circuits that host this event. The participating teams present a high-performance single-seater, designed and built entirely by university students, to pass the various static and dynamic tests that show the acquisition of technical knowledge, innovative capacity and project management of each of the participants.

Our association strongly believes in the importance of teamwork, innovation and the development of new technologies. In addition, from the beginning, we had an open character, being a place where interested students can join. With these values we develop technical projects, workshops and courses, and encourage the creation of interest groups on different topics. All this is a very valuable training for the future work of university students who are part of the IEEE UVigo Student Branch.

Like the people who make up the association, the subject matter of the projects we carry out is very varied. From social projects to advanced robots to participate in national competitions, through introductory and advanced projects aimed at learning different current technologies. We also do regular workshops on technologies of use in the industries, made by and for us, the people who are members. In addition, we also form an Affinity Group Women In Engineering whose objective is to normalise the role of women in engineering.
