On January 16th, the School’s assembly hall hosted the welcome session for students and teachers taking part in the 4th National Teleco Games Olympiad, a competition held simultaneously in more than 20 engineering schools across Spain, in collaboration with the Official Association of Technical Telecommunications Engineers.
This year, 244 students from 22 schools across Galicia are registered for the Galician phase, hosted at the Vigo School. Participation is highest from the province of Pontevedra, although, as explained by the School Director, “there has been a notable increase in students from A Coruña and Ourense, with Lugo being the province with the lowest representation.”
Two major new features have been introduced this year. First, a new category has been created for students in Years 1 and 2 of ESO (lower secondary education). “We want young people to engage with information and communication technologies as early as possible, and this category—unique at national Olympiad level—allows us to foster this interest from an early age,” explains Rebeca Díaz. Second, all teams are now required to consider cybersecurity in some way, either during development and/or in the design of their prototype. “The idea is for them to become familiar with simple but effective measures to protect their security and privacy,” she adds.
Now in its fourth edition, Díaz highlights the strong performance of Galician teams in national finals. “In every edition we have teams on the podium.” In 2025, first prize (IES Rosais 2, Vigo) and fourth prize (IES Isaac Díaz Pardo, Sada) were awarded in the Bachillerato category, while in Vocational Training the first prize went to CIFP A Farixa (Ourense).
The Olympiad presentation also includes a guided tour of the EET’s main facilities for pre-university students, offering insight into the Telecommunications Technologies Engineering degree, as well as a brief meeting with two student associations sponsored by the School (CES UVigo and UVigo SpaceLab).
