Hackathon "Lightweight Virtualization Technologies - WebAssembly"

Open

The Autonomous 5G Edge Infrastructure project, part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and funded by NextGenerationEU funds, is investigating the technologies and architectures that should be incorporated into advanced 5G and 6G networks to provide a system that allows temporarily extending the communication and information processing capacity to remote areas with poor coverage, so that a specific sensorization and sensorization process can be carried out for a specific sensorization process.

Within this project, this Hackathon is proposed as a means to showcase some of the current application virtualization technologies, as well as new trends for Edge computing environments. Specifically, WebAssembly technology will be addressed as a lightweight virtualization technique for Edge environments.

The Hackathon is organized by Optare Solutions in collaboration with the University of Vigo. It includes a challenge that will have the following prizes:

  • The best project will receive €400,
  • the second best project will receive €200 and
  • the third best project will receive €100.

The Hackathon will consist of the following phases:

  • Introduction to the technology covered in the Hackathon (Alberto Estévez Caldas and Rubén Pérez Vaz – Edge Computing Researchers, University of Vigo)
  • Description of the programming challenge of the competition
  • Implementation, evaluation and measurement of the solutions provided by the participants, which will provide the results to determine the winners
