265 Students from 23 High Schools Compete in the III Teleco Games
On January 17, the auditorium of the School of Telecommunication Engineering hosted the reception for students and teachers participating in the final of the III National Telecommunication Olympiad, Teleco Games.
This competition takes place simultaneously at over 20 engineering schools across Spain, with the support of the Official College of Telecommunications Technical Engineers. The final will be held in April, with 265 students from 23 high schools competing in the Vigo phase, divided into 56 teams.
“Once again, we are the institution with the highest number of registered students in Spain (almost 35%), so we hope to achieve great results in the national final, scheduled for May, just as we did in previous editions,” stated the school’s director. She also highlighted that in the 2024 final, Galician students won awards in all categories.
A New Category for Younger Students
One of the major innovations of this third edition is the introduction of a new category for 1st and 2nd-year ESO students. “Our goal is to inspire young students to explore telecommunications, as it’s never too early to experiment with communication technologies,” explained Díaz. With this addition, the competition now includes participants from 3rd and 4th-year ESO, as well as students from Bachillerato and Vocational Training programs.
The Olympiad Focuses on SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
During the event, which lasted the entire morning and included a guided tour of the EET facilities, organizers explained that this year’s competition challenges teams to create a prototype using any Arduino-compatible board. The project must provide a solution aligned with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and incorporate some form of communication technology (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.). This means students will design projects that showcase how telecommunications can contribute to ensuring accessible, safe, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
The Teleco Games are supported by companies from the ConexiónTeleco network, including BorgWarner, Indra, Grupo Oesía, and Televés. In addition to the €1,300 prizes in each category, these companies help provide high schools with development kits to support students in their projects.
