Interested participants must register through the School’s website
The School of Telecommunication Engineering will open its doors to the public this Thursday in a special open day aimed primarily at high school students who will soon be choosing their university degree, as well as their families. The event will begin at 4:30 PM, and prior registration is required through the School’s website.
This third consecutive edition of the open day complements the regular visits made by schools throughout the year. The event will be guided by faculty members along with current students, who will provide first-hand insights into what it’s like to study at the School, what the Telecommunication Engineering Degree entails, and what types of projects and activities are typically carried out.
The session will start with a brief introductory talk, after which attendees will get a chance to experience the potential of telecommunication technologies through guided tours of labs such as the 5G laboratory, anechoic chambers, and the photonics lab for optical and quantum communications.
Hackathon for EET Students with €700 in Prizes
This year’s open day will also include a visit to the “Lightweight Virtualization Technologies – WebAssembly” hackathon, taking place at the same time at the School. Organized by Optare Solutions and the atlanTTic research center of the University of Vigo, the hackathon will showcase modern application virtualization technologies and explore emerging trends in Edge computing environments.
Open to both undergraduate and master’s students, the hackathon will unfold in three phases:
- Introduction to the technologies, led by Alberto Estévez Caldas and Rubén Pérez Vaz, Edge Computing researchers at UVigo.
- Presentation of the programming challenge participants must tackle.
- Implementation, evaluation, and measurement of the proposed solutions, which will determine the winning teams.
The top three projects will receive €400, €200, and €100 respectively.
