Award for 3 Outstanding Students Who Chose Telecommunication Engineering

Three of the top students in Galicia in the 2024 ABAU exams, all with scores above 13, chose to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunication Technologies Engineering in its English-taught modality at the School of Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Vigo. Andrea Rodríguez, Jorge López, and Lucía Castrillo received awards on Friday for achieving the highest entry scores in the school, each receiving a prize of €2,000. These prizes were sponsored by three companies from the ConexionTeleco network: BorgWarner, Technica Engineering, and the R Chair in Cybersecurity.

The award ceremony coincided with the launch of the III National Telecommunication Olympiad (Teleco Games), an initiative aimed at inspiring pre-university students. This year, the event will bring 265 students from across Galicia to the Vigo school, many of whom attended the presentation in person, while others followed the event online. Andrea, Jorge, and Lucía serve as role models for these aspiring students, demonstrating the exciting opportunities that a career in telecommunication technologies can offer.

Company representatives took the stage to congratulate the awardees for their talent and dedication, encouraging them to continue striving toward a promising future. Each student then received their diploma:

  • Andrea Rodríguez received her award from Telmo Cuaje, Director of the Spanish Technical Center for Electronics at BorgWarner.
  • Jorge López was presented with his prize by David Román, Office Manager at Technica Engineering Spain.
  • Lucía Castrillo, winner of the R Chair in Cybersecurity award, was presented with her prize by Alfredo Ramos, Regional Director of R in Galicia.

Following the ceremony, Andrea, Lucía, and Jorge had to return to their classrooms to continue with an important exam day for first-year students of the Telecommunication Technologies Engineering program.
