For the first time, Oracle4Girls, an initiative by Oracle, will be held in Vigo.
The School of Telecommunication Engineering is fully engaged in organizing new activities to encourage girls and young women to explore the world of technology. This major event will take place on Saturday, March 22, led by Oracle4Girls, an initiative by Oracle that has already been held in various cities across Spain. Now arriving in Vigo, it presents a unique opportunity “to motivate and empower the next generation of young women to become the technological leaders of tomorrow,” as highlighted on the event’s official website.
With multiple workshops designed for girls aged 4 to 16, interested participants can now register through the school’s website. The event will feature different activities tailored to specific age groups (4-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-13 years, and 14-16 years). These workshops are specifically designed to inspire young girls to explore careers in science and technology, foster interest in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and showcase the exciting opportunities available in the ICT sector, where women remain underrepresented.
“Hosting this event is a great opportunity for the EET”
“For the EET, hosting this event is a great opportunity, not only because it aligns with the school’s strategic efforts to promote telecommunications technologies among students and families, but also because of its focus on young girls,” explains the school’s director, Rebeca P. Díaz. She strongly believes that introducing telecommunications studies to younger audiences, as they have already done with initiatives like Elas Fan TIC and the Telecommunications Olympiad, will help reduce the gender gap in engineering.
“I would like to thank Oracle for choosing our school for this initiative and also atlanTTic, which is collaborating with us to ensure the March 22 event is a success,” adds Díaz.
The EET also aims to reach families, as they play a crucial role in guiding and supporting their daughters toward these disciplines. “In a world where technologies like programming, robotics, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality are shaping the future, these workshops not only provide technical knowledge but also celebrate the women who, through hard work and dedication, paved the way in these fields.”
As part of this initiative, Oracle4Girls will also offer informative talks on the role of technology in family life, specifically designed for parents and guardians.
Free Shuttle Buses for Easy Campus Access
To make transportation easier for participants, free shuttle buses will be available with multiple stops across the city (Areal, Plaza de España, Plaza de América). These buses will operate both in the morning (starting at 9:15 AM) and for the return trip (around 1:10 PM).
