At UVigo, the number has doubled in the last 5 years

The number of students opting to complete their undergraduate final projects (TFG) in a company or institution has doubled over the last five academic years. During 2023/24, a total of 60 students chose this approach, bringing them closer to the social and economic realities where they aspire to secure their first job, compared to 26 in the 2018/19 period.

Most of the students conducting their TFGs in companies come from UVigo’s various engineering schools. However, in recent years, students from Biology, Chemistry, and Advertising and Public Relations programs have also opted for this modality.

During the past academic year, out of the 60 registered students, 32 were from the School of Telecommunication Engineering in Vigo, and 14 from the School of Industrial Engineering, representing six of its degrees (Biomedical, Electronics, Organization, Chemical, Technology, and Mechanical Engineering).

Additionally, 5 students from Aerospace Engineering and 2 from Computer Engineering, both based in the Ourense campus, also completed their TFGs in companies. Similarly, 4 students from Biology in Vigo and 2 from Advertising and Public Relations in Pontevedra participated in this initiative.

In previous years, the list has also included students from the master’s programs in Statistical Techniques and Integrated Business Administration and CSR, both under the Faculty of Economics in Vigo.

The overall figures for the University during the 2023/24 academic year show a total of 3,303 internships, of which 2,734 were curricular (included in the curriculum for undergraduate and master’s programs). The remaining 569 were extracurricular internships that students undertook voluntarily.

In this latter case, some of the companies and technology centers hosting university students included Delta, Gradiant, Televés, Finsa, Cortizo, Grupo Leche Río, Bimba y Lola, and Povisa.
