Entrega do distintivo á directora da Escola de Enxeñaría de Telecomunicación

“In recognition of outstanding efforts to improve the employability of students and graduates from your center, as well as promoting entrepreneurial opportunities,” the University of Vigo awarded the Employability Distinction to the Faculty of Economics and Business and the School of Telecommunication Engineering (EET) on February 8, 2024. These two centers have become the first two on the Vigo campus to achieve this distinction, which, in this first edition, was also awarded to the Faculty of Law on the Ourense campus.

The award ceremony for the Vigo centers took place in the afternoon at the Incuvi space in Miralles Square, presided over by the Rector, Manuel Reigosa. He congratulated them on the achievement, an award that recognizes the extensive work of certain schools and faculties in organizing activities related to the professional guidance of their students and in university employment mediation, as well as their extensive experience in organizing job fairs.

Congratulations also came from the Vice-Rector for Employability and Students, Natalia Caparrini, who explained that with this distinction, the academic institution aims to publicly recognize schools and faculties that stand out in the active and permanent promotion of improving the employability of their students.

The event was also attended by the guest, the Minister of Employment Promotion and Equality of the Xunta de Galicia, Elena Rivo, who highlighted the collaboration with the University of Vigo in promoting entrepreneurship, for the development of entrepreneurial spirit among the university community. Also, in favor of equality, which is necessary in fields such as technology.

“Years of commitment to strengthening ties with companies” at the EET

The director of the School of Telecommunication Engineering, Rebeca P. Díaz, highlighted that this distinction represents recognition of the work that has been done at the EET for years, “committing, as expected in an engineering school, to strengthen ties with companies” for the center’s quality processes, for training in transversal competencies through the orientaTE and integraTE programs, to achieve a varied and high-quality offering of external internships, to promote the completion of final degree projects in companies, and for other support activities through the ConexiónTeleco network.

In her speech, she also took the opportunity to thank the support of the business community with the activities promoted by the EET, the good spirits of the students, and their initiative to complement their training through student associations that emerged in the school, “such as UVigo Space Lab, CES UVigo, or the Technological Employment Forum” and also the teaching staff, “always active in innovation and transfer with the business community, which helps us a lot in synergies with companies.”

Testimonials highlighting the work of the EET

Álvaro Vázquez, a graduate of the EET, highlighted the six years at the school, which helped him grow as a person. “Since we started the degree, many facilities are offered to us to establish contact with the working world,” Álvaro commented. He emphasized the importance of the internship pool offered by the school and the connection with companies in the sector. “From the beginning of the degree, contact with companies in the sector is facilitated, such as Optare, which is my present,” said Álvaro. He emphasized the unparalleled connection between students and companies, praising the work of the school for providing these opportunities.

Ivana Ogando, also a graduate of the school, joined the congratulations and described the academic experience as two stages: the uncertainty of the beginning and the uncertainty after graduation. The school, according to Ivana, provides solid support in both stages through programs such as orientaTE, student associations, and a wide range of opportunities for internships. She highlighted the importance of the internship pool and events such as the job fair in transitioning students to the working world.

Roberto Pérez, a consultant partner at Optare Solutions, a company closely linked to the school, shared data on the incorporation of more than 30 Telecommunications students into internships in recent years. He praised the level and preparation of graduates, indicating that the relationship with the school is key for his company. He also emphasized the interest of companies in participating in initiatives of the school such as the ConexiónTeleco network.
