At the School of Telecommunications Engineering we promote the principle of effective equity between men and women in all areas and activities developed by the center.

The University of Vigo has procedures for the prevention of sexual and gender-based harassment. You can find them here.

Since February 2022 we have the 1st Action Plan on Equity of the EET, which was born with the purpose of contributing to the achievement of the objectives of the 3rd Equity Plan of the University of Vigo in our school.

Events and activities

In order to promote the interest of girl students in Telecommunication Engineering and to make our School known, we have several initiatives that we maintain throughout the year:

International Day of Women and Girls in Science“Elas Fan CienTec”

This international day -11th February-, approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2015, aims to achieve full and equal access and participation of women and girls in the scientific field. It is a day of remembrance that serves as a reminder that women have a fundamental role in science and technology.

International Day of Women and Girls in ICT“Elas Fan TIC”

This day is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of April and was established in 2010 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations agency specialised in telecommunication. Its objective is to encourage technological vocations in women and girls, as well as to reduce the gender digital gap.

Testimonies of “Teleco” women

We collect testimonies from former EET female students who are working in different fields (research, business, management) and also in different sectors (artificial intelligence, computing, electronics, radio, video games, augmented reality, IoT etc.). Women who are currently studying in our centre also participate in this initiative.

You can watch some examples in our Youtube channel:

Talks on scientific dissemination and the role of women in Telecommunication Engineering

The women teachers and researchers of the School participate in the dissemination of technology related to telecommunications and, with this, we also help to make visible the role of women in our sector.

In the last two years, we have talked about:

  • Research and gender bias: impact of a “blurred” Artificial Intelligence.
  • I like to build things that work, and you?
  • Women in Engineering.
  • Girls in ICT.
  • Science and technology made for women: close examples.
  • Women in Telecommunication Engineering: past and present.

In addition, we have a calendar of activities coinciding with relevant anniversaries for women and girls:

In order to guarantee the principle effectively, we have a responsible person who acts as a link between the School and the Equity Unit of the University of Vigo.
